Formed in 2009, the Idomeneo Quartet, is made up of four post-graduate students of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where the quartet currently holds the Chamber Music Fellowship. Already regarded as one of the most exciting young quartets on the music scene, the Idomeneo is studying under the tutelage of the renowned Vogler Quartet in Stuttgart, Rainer Schmidt in Basel and Alasdair Tait at the Guildhall, London.
The Idomeneo Quartet have already held recitals in numerous concert venues all over Europe ( Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Switzerland , Austria, and Belgium) and the UK. This included concerts in the Barbican , Festival and Queen Elizabeth Halls, London.
The foursome was selected to take part in chamber music courses , such as two Pro-Quartet courses (with Heime Muller in Paris and with Rainer Schmidt in the Provence) and the 54th Jeunesse Musicale course in Weikesheim , Germany ( with Heime Muller and the Vogler Quartet). The Idomeneo Quartet was invited to take part in the Tunnell Trust Chamber Music Showcase in Blair Atholl, Scotland and most recently took part in the London String Quartet Symposium.
The Idomeneo Quartet was awarded the prize of “the most convincing newcomer ensemble” by the Friends of the Jeunesse Musicale in Germany; their final concert was broadcast live on German radio to critical acclaim. The Quartet also won the Tunnell Trust Chamber Music competition. More recently, it was selected to take part in the Park Lane New Year’s Series.
The Idomeneo Quartet was privileged to receive masterclasses from amongst others Bernard Greenhouse, Gary Hoffmann, the Belcea Quartet , Roger Tapping and Cristoph Richter and have been invited by Bernard Greenhouse to extend study time at his residence in Cape Cod, USA, in the near future.
Future commitments include a week under the tutelage of Gunther Pichler in Montepulciano, Italy, culminating in concerts in the Beethoven House, Bonn and in Bern, Switzerland. The Idomeneo Quartet have been invited on a concert tour of Brazil and to play at Music Festivals in the Netherlands and Germany. A forthcoming tour of Scotland has been awarded as part of the Tunnell Trust Music prize. The Idomeneo Quartet is looking forward to its debuts in the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, courtesy of the Park Lane Group.
